COVER LETTER DRAFT

This semester in the class of English 111 I have learned many fundamental things to become a better student and a better person. All the information I got this semester was very helpful; I want to thank you because I know that what I learned is going to help me for the rest of my career, as well as in my everyday life. In this cover letter I want to demonstrate what I learn and how well I understand it. I will go over the five major points of English 111: My major bad habit and how to transform it to a good habit; time management in college and life in general; Kaizen, the technique to manage changes and improvements in a process; writing process, critical thinking, writing and reading; the rhetorical analysis; and the connection between a claim and an opinion. The overall purpose of this essay is to demonstrate what I have learned this semester in English 111 class and to make the claim for my final grade, which I believe I have earned an A.
Learning and knowing about what bad habits I have and how to work on it was very important to improve my academic levels, is always good to be aware of the bad or good habits we have so we can correct them and learn from them. The habit I have being working on is procrastinating in doing my homework. Before this class I did not realized that I was procrastinating as much as I do. It is a complicated habit to work on specially because I am a student and I want to get far in life and do things the right way. But being busy like am always are does not help. I have to come to school, and go to work full time on both things, they both are very important and are a huge part of my life; without a job I could not pay for my school. Now days I am more worry and aware that I have to do my homework and study if I want to learn and get a good grade. I putting all my effort to get homework and assignments complete before the dead line, and do it the right way. I just have to get my schedule organized and make some space to do my homework or assignments. Mainly stop being lazy and have my priorities in order.
Time management was a big part of this semester in English 111. It was crucial at the beginning of the semester, how to organized school with your time and calculate how everything was going to work for each class. The hardest thing was getting to class on time. It was part of our participation grade and getting on time would get us a good grade at the end. Overall I think I did very well with that. The first couple of classes I was kind of late and I could it figured what I was missing. And after going over time management in class I figured that my problem was managing my time in the mornings.
Because I was not used to wake up early and go to school in my own car, it was hard for me. A lot of responsibility involved in this process. I always thought, “ok, I have two options, I either wake up late, rush my morning, drive fast, and run to class and even though be late, or, I could wake up early, have some time in my hands, get some breakfast, and be able to drive in a normal paste without rushing and worrying I was going to be late” because after all the professor does not really care if I get to his class or not. The only responsible and affected is going to be me. Now I manage my time in a better way, I planed ahead of time and I plan for the worst that way I will always be prepared for anything. This way I can get stuff done and have time for all I have to do and want to do.
Kaizen, and awesome method of managing changes and improvements in a process or a routine in order to become successful in life. Does not matter what you do or who you are, we all want to be successful in one point of our life. Some people have never being taught where to start, how to start, or what to do to become that someone that they want to be. Here in English 111 I was taught how to become successful and become who I want to be and have applied it to my life as college student and as a person.
This method consists in a couple of things. The first and most important thing is to always pick the lowest hanging fruit. I got to start from where I am, is not good to rush things and skip steps that can be crucial for something I’m trying to accomplish. I have to start with the resources I have and start building my way to the top. The improvements can be small and slow but they will be continuous and this is what will make perfection. Small improvements will accumulate and will make the difference one day. Always ID the small changes because this is improvements I have made and this will motivate me to keep going and keep trying. Never give up, and never make excuses; nothing should stop you from growing as a better person.
Set goals in life, always have something in front of you to remain you where you are going, where you want to be. These goals will keep you from failure and will keep you motivated and away from failure. I have to evaluate my results and my process along the way. Making sure whatever I am doing is working and is helping me. If this process and method is working repetition is the key, keep doing it, keep getting that lowest hanging fruit I have in my tree and keep building those stairs to the top of my tree.
Rhetoric would be next topic we cover this semester in this class. We learned about the writing process, Critical thinking rubric. It breaks the complex writing into stage with steps, so you can give your all to each step. Learn tips and techniques for implementing each step, which are: Prewriting, drafting, revision, publishing and review. Each of these is fundamental in order for the author to get his message to the audience in the proper way.
I learned that I am a writer in process and because of this I have to practice my craft to get the master piece. I have to learn to take joy from the work, like what I am doing, convince myself that my message is good and I want my audience to think the same. Take pride in my craft, be proud and reflect it in my message, in my writing. As an author, I’m always going to be looking for things that are going to make my life easier. Is good to look for tricks and tips and learned from other author’s work.
In the writing process there is always the prewriting process. Brainstorming session has helped me to concentrate and get my ideas straight on what I need to write about. Then free writing just gives me liberty and permission to express myself and write what I want. Listening is a good tool if you know how to use to in the writing process. Then there is going to be that mind, concept or mapping about the subject and topic. After these questioning comes in place, question yourself about what you have on your paper. Research is handy and very helpful. And a discussion is great to override those spelling mistakes and any grammar error I could have.

Pretending I am a future student

"What would I hope to hear from a student at Reynolds, which would help to support, entertain, encourage, and motivate me?"
If I was a high school student, or just someone looking for a good college to start, i would like to hear all the good things about that place.
I would like to hear that is cheap and accessible, tuition fee is not exaggerated and books are easy to find, that the professors are professional and knowledgeable and they will help me if i am struggling in any subject. Also hear good stuff about the population or students that go there, if there is a variety and is good people i would not have any problem with anyone and maybe make good friends.
What kind of activities they have, sports, gym... recreational activities and events so i can also have fun. Parking space? is it crowded?.

Updating my bad habit

This bad habit is going so good, i am surprise. Every time i have some time to do something i always think about my homework and what i have to do for school. And what is best is that i actually do it and work hard on it before having fun or going out. I think i am reaching my objecting here and doing pretty good. i had my dead line set up like a month ago when i saw that procrastinating was not going to give me a good grade in any class. the first couple of weeks was very hard to concentrate and stop procrastinating my homework, but now i feel much confident and i know i can do it.

Updating my budget

My budget is in a good shape right now, mainly because i am getting more money with my new job. For me this means that i have to be more responsible, save more money and try to spend it the right way. In this moment of my life i am trying to sell the car i have right now and buy a buy a new one... because of this i am not in a position of controlling my money to much, specially my savings. What i can do is save tours my car down payment and have in mind what is my priority.

Reflective essay draft

This semester in the class of English 111 we have learned how to get a clue to be good in college, we have got so much information that our group broke down into three main categories, which are Myself, College life, and Social life; we have learned many good things in each of these categories. All the information we got is very helpful and we know is going to help us for the rest of our careers as students and human beings, as well as in our everyday life.
In the category about myself we have three main things that we learn, the first one is personality. We learned about our learning styles, each one of us now can tell how they are, and how they act around other people, it gave me answers to questions that I wonder for most of my life as a student, this activity helped me found out that I am a ISTP, knowing this have made me a better person, I can understand other people’s reactions and way to behave around different situations, I can also control my emotions a little bit more.
Knowing about what habits we have and what we need to work on is good for ourselves, is always good to be aware of the bad or good habits we have so we can correct them and be a better person. The habit I have being working on is procrastinating in doing my homework. Before this assignment I did not realized that I was procrastinating as much as I do. It is a very bad habit to have specially because I am a student and I want to go far and do things the right way. Now days I am more worry about my homework, I put all my effort to do it before the dead line, and do it the right way. I just have to get my schedule right and get space for my homework, be responsible and work before playing.
A very nice topic that I liked was success, how to be successful, what do I need to be a successful person and student. There are a couple of things that we all need to work on and do to be successful. I learned that I need to work hard to get what I want; I have to start with something that I can accomplish right now so later on I can reach the “top of the mountain”. There are going to be many obstacles on my way but I have to put them on the side and keep going. Always doing what is right and do it at the right time.
College life is a wide topic to talk about; I learned where all the resources were here at J. sergeant Reynolds, there is a place to go for each different thing, we have advising options, financial aid opportunities for every single student, we also have the college’s web site where we can find jobs, requirements for our careers and majors, we have an email where we can get in contact with our professors and many more things. We also have a big library and many computers for research or just go and do a project, print out assignments and do your homework. How or what we need to do to transfer to another college if that is what I want to do; we even have a game room to go and relax for a while after a hard day of school. We have so many resources and opportunities to be successful and good student, have a responsible and organized student life and help management my time as a student, as a worker, as a girlfriend, as a friend, as a daughter, this is something that is helping me for the rest of my life.
Social life, this class helped me to be more social, met more people and interact with them. Few months ago I would not get together with my classmates and study, but this class changed that fact of me, now, today I am seating in a study room in a library with four of my classmates, and it feels good to be able to count on other people just like me, students and teenagers. This makes me feel better because I know that in the future I am not going to be as shy as I was before.
Organization in college is the key for success. We need to manage our time in a way that we can finish and accomplish what is more important in college and our lives. Do homework or study first than playing Xbox 360, watching TV or hanging out with friends.
In overall I enjoy this class very much, it was very helpful. The learning community is a great idea, combining the classes to help the students to do well in college and get more involved in each of our classes, where we are, and where do we want to go. I put a lot of effort in this class, and made sure to understand all the material that was presented to me to do all the homework and assignments the correct way. I worked hard and gave the best of me to deserve an “A” as a final grade.

cover letter

This is semester in the class of SDV 100 we have learned a lot and got a clue on how to manage college life so later on we can success and be what we want to be. We have got so much information that I broke it down into three main categories, which are: Myself, College life, and Social life. We have learned many good things in each of these categories. All the information we got is very helpful, and I know it is going to help me for the rest of my career as a student and human being, as well as in my everyday life.

Knowing about what habits I have and what I need to work on is good for myself, is always good to be aware of the bad or good habits we have so we can correct them and be a better person or change them into good habits. The habit I have being working on is procrastinating in doing my homework. Before this assignment I did not realized that I was procrastinating as much as I do. It is a very bad habit to have specially because I am a student and I want to go far and do things the right way. Now days I am more worry about my homework, I put all my effort to do it before the dead line, do it early instead of later and do it the right way. I just have to get my schedule right and get space for my homework, be responsible and work before playing; now what comes first and realize that if I do not do my homework is going to affect me later on, and I will be the only one responsible for this.
A very nice topic that I liked was success, how to be successful in life, what do I need to be a successful person and student. There are a couple of things that we all need to work on and do to be successful. I learned that I need to work hard to get what I want; I have to start with something that I can accomplish right now, something easy, improve as we go and those improvements will accumulate and then we will reach the “top of the mountain”. There are going to be many obstacles on my way but I have to leave them behind and keep going. Always doing what is right and do it at the right time. Kaizen is the method we learned to manage process as well as routine. The idea of this method is to always pick the lowest hanging fruit so little by little we get the highest one. Practice and get better on what we do. Start from where we are that is here in college as a student, so later on we can be professionals and reach that success we are looking for.
Social life; this class helped me to be more social and met more people, with different personalities and type of lives. Few months ago I would not get together with my classmates and study, but this class changed that fact of me, now, today I am seating in a study room in the library with four of my classmates, and it feels good, it feels good to be able to count on other people just like me, students and teenagers. This makes me feel better because I know that in the future I am not going to be as shy as I was before, taking this class and getting to know my class mates was a great experience. Other students are also a resource to become a better student and learn from other people experiences.
Organization in college is the key for success. I need to know how to manage my time as a student, full time worker, daughter, girlfriend, friend and all the roles I have in life. The to-do list was a great method to put order in my life and organized my schedule and my priorities. I learned what comes first. It helped me to remember easier what I had to do, because my memory is not as good as I thought it was, with the list I had something that remind me what was next and what was necessary to accomplish the next thing I want it to do or I need it to do.
I enjoy every lecture of this class; each of the major assignments helped me in school and in life as a whole it definitely made me a better student. I think is a great idea that they put English 111 and SDV 100 together because these way students can combine what they learn and get an idea of where we are going. This way we can get more involved in college and do better in each of our classes with the help of our classmates and professors.
These eight weeks I put all my effort and time into this class. I pay attention in class and got the best out of each lecture and assignment we had. I went home and did my part as a student of doing my homework. I deserved an “A” as a final grade because I worked hard and gave my best, as part of this effort here is my portfolio. The whole idea of the class was to get a clue of where we are and where we going. Now I know I am in school with more years of study to come to be a successful architect.

Am I in crisis?

It is obvious that this semester in college was informative and busy, more than what I am used to. I think too much information in a very short period of time, although I had fun and learned important stuff that I was not aware off. Right now I do not think I’m in a crisis, I feel complete, relax and motivated to keep going and reach my goals in life. The last few weeks were crazy at work as well as in school, but more at work than anywhere else. At my new job I have been learning and getting a bunch of information useful to be successful at my job. I have been training five days a week, 7 hours a day; it is an online training and it is driving me crazy because I have to be in front of a computer day and night listening to my trainer voice, which can be quite annoying. In top of this intense training for work I have 4 classes with lots of homework and projects, quizzes and tests, After all this work and stress I can finally go home at night and relax; my house is the only place where I can forget about job and school, feels good to go home, take off your shoes and just lay down and watch TV for a while. I don’t even have time to go to the gym and workout for a little bit which is one thing that relaxes me after a busy day. You would think I am in crisis right now, but after all I know the busy days and hard work are going to get me far, as far as I want. I know this effort I am putting to school is going to be worth when I am sitting in my office with my house plans in front of me, then I am going to take a deep breath, smile and think “I did it! “. I want to be professional, I want to accomplish all my goals and have a good future for me and for my family; I am willing to do everything to be happy and be what I want to be. Right now my plans are to transfer to a four year college with good grades, keep working hard and save some money for this college, and I know if I keep doing what I’m doing right now I will be fine, there are going to be bigger sacrifices, but you can if you want, if you put your heart and mind to it. I think I am ready for whatever comes later on in my life as a student and as a person.

Activity # 2

For my second activity, this week I attended to a book discussion. I had a lot of fun, especially because it had a little bit to do with my cultural background. The name of the book was “How Soccer Explains the World: an Unlikely Theory of Globalization”, our professor Jenna Morrison was the one who gave the discussion about the book. We had a fun demonstration on how to play soccer, and one speaker that was very fun and told us his story about how soccer have change his life. There also was a group discussion where everybody participated and made it fun. They explained that soccer changes the world every time there is a game; it unifies the world when the world cup is played. Soccer is a game that many people think as a passion and part of their daily basis. I am from Colombia; I can tell soccer is passion, soccer is more than a game or people chasing a ball, there is more to this game that you would have to grow with a soccer field by your house and a soccer ball in your room to understand it. In Colombia like in many countries soccer is only for boys, I grew up believing this and watching all my boyfriends play every afternoon after school, and I just sat with the girls and cheer to them or bring them water, and even thought we knew this was for boys we all had our own team we cheer for and had the jersey, I even went to the stadium to see my team play. When I got here to the United States I was shocked that girls could played soccer like it was tennis or softball, I was happy that the guys did not mind and it actually was kind of sexy. Anyways I had a lot of fun in this activity and learn from other cultures too. It brought me many good memories and I felt very well !

career

1a. When I get out of school I want to design houses, be creative and be able to imaging a masterpiece and put it on paper or computer so someone else can build it and have people live in this house or work in this building. I want to like and enjoy whatever I am doing. According to the exercise 12.1 in page 276 I like to work inside or outside, it does not really matter. I like to work with people as well as by myself. I want to complete things, solve problems, produce information, involve a product, and work in an organized way step-by-step. These are some of the characteristics I would be enjoying once I get a real job.

1b. STRENGTHS: as an architectural drafter I am going to have many talents and qualities that I can develop with time and experience. I could get better with the different systems there are to design on the computer and be able to put them on paper so others can see what the mining of the project is. I already have some experience and practice on some of this computer and drawing skills.
WEAKNESSES: something that I think is a negative point for me is that I “quit” very easily which I am not supposed to do at all. Also I get moody when something does not work out the way I want to. I know these things are very bad specially if I am going to be working with numbers and things that require patients but I also know I can fix and reduce these bad habits I have.
OPPORTUNITIES: Something I have to my favor is the fact that I am bilingual, I am fluent in Spanish, I can write it and read it, as well as English. This is always going to have some open doors and more in this field. One really neat thing that my professor told me is that in the future, Cuba is going to become like another Hawaii and they are going to “rebuild” Cuba with new technologies and new structures all around, and this can be a very good opportunity for me.
THREATS: Being a female can be a good thing but personally I think that in this area of Architecture, being a girl can be a disadvantage, I have a picture that does not favor it me, but off course this can be just a wrong idea I have.
I know that my weakness or the threats I think I have are not going to be a problem for my future success and me being able to become an awesome architect or architectural drafter/drafter designer. With time I can fix these bad habits I have and get positive one to be better.
1c. I enjoy using my hands and creating things, I love art, drawing and imaging things and putting them on paper this fits perfectly with the career I choose and like. Since I was a little girl I like to draw and paint, I was the best one in my classes drawing wise or simple things like making straight lines or perfect circles. I also used to draw my dream house in every paper I had in my hands, I used to get ideas from every building I passed by, since then I knew I was going to do something that had art and drawing involved, and architecture fits my profile perfectly.

After doing the Advising assignment I found out that the curriculum/ major I am part of is Architectural and civil Engineering Technology. After I get my two years degree here at J. Sergeant Reynolds, I would like to transfer and specialize in Architectural/ industrial design. I am not sure where I want to transfers. I did hear that Virginia Tech is a really good architectural school, UVA is also pretty nice and is closer to home, or the other option I have is ODU which is close to the beach and has a very good reputation.
This is my second semester and so far I have completed four of the classes that are required. I have all this courses that I have to take in order to get my two years degree.

I do have many questions about transferring, I would like to know which school is better for what I want to study, I think I want to be a architectural drafter, I would like to know which school is the more convenient for me; money wise, what is the educational level, location, kind of population, and how the college is according to transferable credits; I have heard before that some schools do not accept most of the credits or classes you took to transfers and you have to retake them, and I do not want this to happen to me.

updating my blog ... (habit and time managment)

this past two weeks i have been so busy between work and school that i do not have time for homework and i hate postponing my school work for "real work". this is stressing me out. Today i had off and i am doing all my homework, i had class this morning until 1 p.m and i have class at 7 p.m to 9 p.m tonight, this is so much for me that i am having trouble working on my habit and time management, hopefully ill get use to this routine and get better managing my time and all my responsibilities.

My budget

Right now I am having a big change in my life and this is affecting all areas in this moment, like my budget, school, time management, and responsabilities. I was without a job a little longer than a month and I had to use the savings I had to pay my bills, fortunately I got a job a few weeks ago at Sprint. With this new job I am having positive changes because I have a money entrance again and I can now pay all my bills and start with my savings again, less gas since my job is closer to my house than the one I had before and my cell phone bill went down. But I am also having negative changes such as changes in my schedule, working more hours, and right now I am about to go to training for three weeks, this is fundamental for my job, this means I am going to miss class and is going to affect my grades, but without a job I cannot afford college so I have to make this sacrifice and try to make it work, do some extra credit and do all my homework. I have not received my first pay check but I think is going to be 1,600$ dollars each month and this are my bills…
MONTHLY BILLS AND EXPENSES!
Rent $250
Electric bill $45
Internet/cable $25
Cell phone $7
Car insurance $84
Medicine $25
Groceries (food/cleaning supplies) $150
School supplies $10
Entertainment/clothes $110
Gas $50
**$756 is how much I need each month for my bills and social life**

2. I use my credit card for particular types of purchases only such as gas or food… always true of me.
3. I pay off my credit card bills in full every month… always true of me.
4. I know the interest rate on my credit card… sometimes true of me.
5. I resist impulse buying and only spend when I need things… sometimes true of me.
6. I have a budget and I follow it…sometimes true of me.
7. I put money aside to save each month… never true of me.
8. When I get a pay raise, I increase the proportion of money I save… never true of me.
9. I keep track of my spending on a daily or weekly basis… always true of me.
10. I don’t allow myself to get pressured by other into buying things I don’t really need… always true of me.

EXERCISE 24.6 create a spending log

* I spent about $112.50 in a normal or average day.

1. Are you as fiscally fit as you'd like to be? What areas are you best at? Where can you improve? How can you improve these areas?
Regarding to my money I think I manage it carefully but I would like to be able to save more money and have some buck up for any kind of emergency. Anybody would rather be an expert in finances and economy but the truth is that we all have many thing to learn and we are also victims of the economy in whole because if the country is in a bad shape we all are. Right now I am not being able to save any money because I am in college and I leave by myself which is more expensive than if I was with my mom. I am good managing my credit card and paying it on time, because I want to build my credit history and have good credit for my future plans, the only thing I have to learn how to do is keeping my checkbook more organized and balanced. I can do this by taking my time and writing everything down every time I spend money, sometimes I do not do it because I am in a rush or I do not want to keep the people waiting on line or anything like that.

2) What do you find that you spend most of your money on in an average day? Are these necessary expensives or unnecessary ones? (In other words - are they needs or wants?) For the unnessary ones, how could you cut these expenses down? How much do you think you could end up saving each day by making these changes? Each week? Each month? etc.

While I was making this chart of what I spend on an average day I found myself typing things that at some point seem to be necessary but if I stop for a second and think about it I don’t really need to spend my money on them. There are many things for entertainment or food that I don’t really need such as rented movies, pizza, milkshakes, or trashy food. But I also have necessary expenses like my weekly groceries or supplies for school or gas, this are elements that I need to live. For the unnecessary things such as food I can always go home and make something, or pack my lunch for school or work and buy goodies at the groceries store with my weekly groceries that way I am not going to find myself going to burger king to get a milkshake or stuff like that, this can also cut down in my gas expenses, for entertainment I can find a good movie on TV or a show I like instead of renting a movie or going to the movie theater, I can get with my friends and play video games or board games.

changing my habit

Changing my habit is not as easy as i thought, like the Kaizen method recommend i am doing this change little by little, step by step, nothing too big but every little thing in order to get where i want to be which is successful. i have been trying to fix this bad habit and turn it into something good, i am keeping the to do list which is a great tool to accomplish this, and is helping me so far. i am picking the lowest hanging fruit and getting my basket full. so far i think my progress is good, because i manage my time better always keeping in mind what is next on my list. i still think i can be more successful and more responsible and i am going to keep working hard and make this happen.

staying on track with my to do list...

My habit is Procrastinating specially doing my homework. This is a big habit and a difficult one to change, i have been having a lot of homework and assignments in all my class and on top of that i have to work 40 hours a week so things get complicated. I have been keeping my to do list and this is helping me, i keep it close to me so i remember what i have to do next and what is that i have to do to accomplish this next thing on my list. The list is very helpful for me, it keeps me motivated because i not only write my homework but my fun stuff that i could do if i finish everything on time.

Activity #1 summary

I went to a workshop; this workshop was named “money management”. It was based in college students’ situations, our budget, the risks we have if we do not know how to manage the money we earn, credit cards, credit history and the importance of it. This amazing activity took place in Massey/ 220/PRC on January 28 of 2010 at 4:00 o’clock. The Sponsor was Megan B. Foster, a very nice lady that obviously knew what she was talking about. The length of the workshop was about an hour and a half, the other people and I participated asking questions or commenting on some of the topics we were talking about. I thought it was very interesting because us, the audience were very different, you could tell there were people from other countries, people with different economic situations, different expectations on life and different plans for the future; but we all had the same questions and concerns.
I like this workshop a lot, I am glad I assist to it because Ms. Foster resolved some of the questions I had regarding credit cards and my credit history. She was very good answering any kind of questions and I am sure we all walked out of that class room feeling better and knowing more about money and how to manage it. One of the many things I learned was that having too many credit cards in different stores or banks is not good for your credit history. The credit history people want to see that you can pay one bill and can be consisting with your payments and specially that you do not need many credit cards because this means you do not have money and need to be “borrowing money”.
It is also very important to know how to read a bank statement, understand everything that is on the paper; sometimes the banks will have some kind of extra charges or just simple changes on your account that you need to understand in order to be able to pay on time and not get unnecessary charges. Ms. Foster told us that the banks are going to try to get money out of you in any kind of way, they might increase the percent in your credit card or you limit this is way you need to be aware and be able to read each statement you get, it is also good to keep your bank papers and information for a while just in case you need prove of something in the future.
Having a good credit history is essential in this country, if you do not have credit is like you do not exist. You need good credit to buy a house, or to lease an apartment, to buy a car or just to rent one, you need good credit to get loans for school or any kind of loan, you even need good credit to get a credit card. In order for your credit history to grow you have to make your payments on time, pay any kind of bill on time and do not exceed your limits in cards, for example if you have a thousand dollars in your credit card is not a good idea to spend nine hundred and ninety nine, this is going to affect your history.
Financial aid is a great source of getting your college costs low; there are a thousand of financial aid opportunities for college students. Making a budget is a good idea to get organized and control your Spence’s

Learning from my professor

English 111 is the class that is giving me the hardest time in this semester in college, mainly because is too much reading and writing and I do not have the right skills. I know I can learn a lot from my English teacher and his learning style and personality type. His learning style is (R), read/write, and his personality type is ISTP. I have very much to learn from my professor and his personality and his lessons. It is an advantage now that I know my personality types and learning styles and my teachers’ too. This way I can understand better other people’s actions and expectations as well as my own and I can put my learning style in practice so I do better in each of my classes. I hope I become a good writer and strong reader so I can apply my skills in college and have good grades and someday graduate and get my degree.

Vark styles and Myers Briggs types

1. Write a post to your blog of ~500-750 words. In this post, use both the Myers Briggs types and the VARK styles to try and characterize the personality type and learning styles preferred by the professors with whom you are doing the best and the worst this semester. Use your analysis to try and gain insight into what it is about the professors in question which allow you to learn from them (or not). Be specific, what kinds of learning styles do these professors favor in their teaching? What does the presentation of their material tell you about their Myers Briggs personality type?

According to the Vark styles and Myers Briggs types, my learning style is aural, meaning that I learn better discussing the topic with other people, listening one thing many times and going thru the material over and over again. My other learning style is the kinesthetic which is based on going to field trips, feeling real examples of abstract concepts, applying information, viewing exhibits, samples and photos of the material helps a lot, labs are also very helpful, using all my senses and doing things to retain the information. Personally I would like to have the read/write learning style, I just think this style is more common in the college experience and it would be easier to learn and put in practice everything I learn in my classes.
This semester, my second one, I am taking four classes, they all are different and I think all four professors are very different learning wise. I am taking English 111, SDV 100, Architecture: Materials and Methods of Construction II , and Math 04. I think I am doing good in my math class, my teacher uses very detail examples and most of the homework is online where I can go and see other examples of certain exercises, it also brakes down the exercises step by step so I can have a better view to what I have to do and what process I have to use, I like the online learning method because it gives me many options and I have all the time I need to get my homework done. Miss K, my math professor is very patient and this fact helps me get the information I need easily. In my perspective I think that miss k’s learning style is visual because she draws on the board every single example or word problem to explain the material.
I think I am doing well in my English class; the only thing that is giving me some kind of problems is my English teacher teaching style, which is obviously a read/write style. His homework and assignments are all writing and reading, just the instructions to do the homework are extremely long. This is an English class, it is going to be all about writing and reading which can help me with my skills and progress in English but for me is already hard enough since my first language is not English but all this practice is great for my process of learning, I know I can only get better. It is hard sometimes just to stay focus when I am writing an essay of 500 words or 750 words, I lose my thoughts and do not remember what I was writing about or the idea I had. For this kind of problem my teacher is teaching us how to become a better writer, some techniques we could use like brainstorming and mapping my ideas, these are some of the strategies to focus and get better results in our papers, classes, college and life itself.

#1 Activity for SDV 100

This week I did one of the activities for SDV 100, on 1/28/10 at 4:00pm i went to a workshop called "Money Management", the location was Massey/220/PRC and the sponsor was Megan B. Foster. I loved this work shop, it teach me a lot about credit cards, your credit history and how to manage your money being a student.
some of the things i learned were that having too many credit cards is not good for your credit history and that making your payment on time means a lot to your credit history, by doing this your credit history grows and get better, if this happens you would be able to buy a house easier, to buy a car, to get a loan and important things that we are going to need in the future. Also it is very important to be able to read an account statement and understand everything the bank or credit line is trying to tell you on that paper.
there are so many things we have to be aware of as an students, and grownups, we have to start thinking about our future and how to manage our money responsible.

freewritng and listing activities

I have learn a lot in this two classes, almost everything about myself and how to be a better person and student which I like a lot.

Learning styles; this can help me a lot to become a better student and get better grades.

•My personality type
; to get along with my coworkers, family, friends, and people around me. Simply know more about myself and others.

•Success; what my goals are to become successful. How to accomplish all this things so I can become successful.

•Habits; I have noticed a bad habit I have and what things to do to brake it, also what things are causing me to have this habit. Use some techniques that will work and will help me with other habits.

•Kaizen
; I have learned that you have to pick the lowest hanging fruit and that little by little I can do a lot. Always have motivations in my life so that way I can accomplish things better and faster. Practice is my best friend, the more I do something the better I become at it.

•Career assignment
; I saw some good careers and jobs for me. This could help me to decide what a good career I could choose. Where I will be happy and do well.

•Better writer
; this could make me a better student and then the person I want to become. Be able to write good opens many doors and you can gain people respect.

1913 road-map

This road- map of success of 1913 I think has the same things ass a 2010 road-map of success would have, I like the part where the failure goes to the shortcuts and it shows what can get you there such as bad temper, carelessness, shiftlessness, bad memory, and it has a little tunes but it also have some stairs that cuts the tunnel and the ones that go that way will have the lock of preparation and will miss the gate of ideals, and instead would go to the weak morals way. All this holds the true, it tells in a fun way but realistic at the same time what could happen to you if you choose to go this bad ways or shortcuts. Some of the technology of this days can be a very big obstacle in everybody’s way if they do not know how to use it the correct way, one more thing that could be add to it is how easy is to get a job and obtain money, you do not have to be 18 years old or be a professional or have a lot of experience to get a job that pays you well enough to maintain a decent life, this can affect the way you think or work out your road to success.

This road-map of success is very complete and true. The road to success is always going to be long and full of distractions and obstacles, but it depends on the person if you want to take shortcuts or the easier way to go, we all have to take the opportunities that come along with this road to your success in life, if they think they know everything and do not need to know anything else, or whatever they say is right it would not work out, you have to be humble and learn from other, accept your mistakes and learn from them. We all have to work hard and obtain a good reputation and maintain it that way the world will see us with good eyes and many doors would open. Leave the bad habits on the side or at least work on them and try to make them good habits also keep in mind your good morals and put them in practice. These are good things that are going to lead you to success.

I like this map a lot because it says the true and it shows how you can be successful or how you can be a failure. There is always going to be opportunities on your way, and you have to get the best out of them. Try your hardest and follow a system. A system consists in a set of elements that form a whole, does not matter what career or what might be your goal to get success it will have a system, and you would have to respect that system and follow it. This means there are rules to follow and by doing this you would be building and going in your road to success.

Success essay

Success is a big word and every time I think of it, being professional comes to my mind; I want to be an architect, a successful architect, which is my first thing in my bucket list. I want to graduate and have my diploma, that day I am going to be successful, I am going to be happy, I would be able to make the people I love proud of me, and after that moment I know more good things are going to come to my life such as my dreamed job, have an awesome family, a nice house, cool car, money in the bank, travel and have fun, etc, but before all this nice things I have to go to school, do homework and be constant, and never forget what I want to be and how far I want to get.
If I ever want to be successful I have to do a lot of work and sacrifice some fun and good things and I know it is going to take me a while and hard work but with effort and dedication I can accomplish what I want and what I need. Right now I think I am doing well; I am attending to college, I am working to afford whatever my needs and pay my bills. Sometimes it is really hard, I feel weak and lazy and I do not want to keep going, sometimes I think it would be easier if I just stop going to school and work some more hours. But deep down I know that is not the true, that would not take me to success, it is just a short cut which at the end is going to bring me nothing but disappointments, sadness and more work to do. I could just stop paying for school and buy a new car, or get a cooler cell phone, or have more time to go out with my friends or simply do not have to worry about essays, math homework, reading boring books or anything related to school, but that is not going to give me a good future, that is not going to make my family proud, that is not going to make me happy or give me the material things I want in my life.
We all have to make sacrifices and work hard if we want to be big and successful, if we want to get somewhere along our lives, and that is exactly what I am doing right now. My mom always says to me that whatever I do I cannot stop studying because that would get me far. Right now all I can do is go to college, take the classes I need to get my two year degree, do my homework, do not miss class unnecessarily, get good grades and then transfer to a four year college and once I am there just keep going, keep doing the same, study, study, study, sacrifice some things, and do not forget what my mom tells me.

1.What was your personality type?

2.Briefly describe the 1 of the jobs that you selected.

3.Look at the description of the jobs you selected for the Career Assignment. Describe the types of work associated with each job. Was this what you expected? Did anything about the job description surprise you?

4.How would your personality type factor in to each of these jobs? Would you enjoy the job? Would you be frustrated by certain aspects of it? What other personality types would you expect to be working with?

1.My personality type is AK (Aural and Kinesthetic), I am also extrovert, sensing, thinker, and perceiver.

2.INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER was one of the jobs I selected, some of the skills that this job requires are creativity, be able to work as part of a team, take criticism in a positive way, and have technical knowledge. For this job I am going to need four years of college and training will be necessary. The average starting salary is 41,500 and after five years it would go up to 69,000.

3.Both of the jobs I selected has to do with design, the first one is Industrial design and the second one is Interior design, they involved a lot of creativity and technical thinking and knowledge, it takes the acceptation of criticism, be able to solve problems and be part of a working team. This jobs also required office hours and be inside most of the time. Four years of college are necessary and experience is required. I was expecting all this type of work and requirements for these jobs. The only thing that surprised me a little was the experience or training required to be able to work.

4.The sensing part of my personality might cause some problems because I cannot be asking every aspect of the work, I would have to look for a solution that make sense or just go with the correct answer instead of questioning why to everything. Something of my personality that would be good is the thinker part of my personality, I think I would have to be logical, analytical and would have to solve a lot of problems and puzzles. Being perceiver could affect my job if I am going to play first and then work, but I believe I can change and work on that aspect of my personality and finish my work first.

impact behavior

Something I have notice is that I am always procrastinating. For now on I am going to set up my priorities and do what I need to do first and then what I want to do. The to do list is something that is going to help me a lot also I am going to set up a homework time or routine to do my homework.

Vision Statement

* Music/ money.
* Art/ draw/ paint.
* Play an instrument.

I am in my home office working in one of my important projects, the house is turning out just how i want. It is beautiful i know everyone is going to love it.

Think about a problem you had this week that involved time management or juggling your responsibilities. For your assignment this week, respond in your blog to the following:
1) Describe the problem that you had in detail.

This week the only problem I had was finding a parking space and as a consequence of this, I was late to class. When I was getting out of my house I thought I had enough time to get to class on time but when I got to school there was a line of cars and no parking anywhere. I had to go all the way to the baseball field and walked a long distance. I got 15 minutes late to class and my teacher was not very happy.

2) Take a look at the five rebalancing strategies on pages 96-97 in your textbook .Pick one to use. In your blog entry, indicate which technique you used to deal with your time management problem. How did you use it? Was it a good solution to your problem? Why/why not?
Techflexing is the rebalancing strategies I choose. I think technology is a great element to keep everything organized and get access to everything faster and easier and from wherever I am. I can do homework from home on my computer or at work in my brake from my blackberry, where ever I am I have access to my homework and classes. I think if more motivating and fun if I have my computer or I can do some research online. It definitely makes my time more manageable and easy.

3) What other possible solutions could you have used to solve your problem?
For my parking problem the best I could do is wake up earlier in the morning and have some extra time so I am not late again to class and have time to find a parking space and walk to class.

4) Is there anything that you could have done to prevent the problem in the first place?
I think that nothing is always perfect and there is going to be some kind of problem on the way. So it is always better to have extra time than to need more time.

A) What differences do you find between high school and your classes at college? Were you expecting any of these differences? Which ones caught you off guard?

High School and college are somewhat different in many aspects. I think the best thing in college is that you can manage your time however you need to and want to, you do not have to stay 8 hours in school and follow all the weird rules and codes the high schools have, we definitely have more freedom in college than in high school, this anyways can be bad for some people that have to work or have a family or life far away from campus. Another change, not so positive is that you have to pay for classes, we all wish it was still free like high school was; but this is a way of showing that we have grown and now we are responsible for our future and our lives.

For me the transition of high school to college was positive, it was one more change in my life, since I am kind of use to move around a lot, I got use to meet different kind of people, be the new girl, and adjust to different places and schools. While I was doing my high school career I had to move at least six times, to a different country, different states and different high schools in the same area, so getting to college was a kind of refresh and start over for me. I know this time I am going to stay in this college for a while because now I am an independent woman and I make my own decisions now.

Even though I always was in a constant change and experience different things, one of the most choking things was when I was looking for a parking spot the first day of college. Every morning I wake up with enough time to eat something, take a shower, get ready and drive wherever I have to go, but I was not counting on a search of ten to fifteen minutes for a parking spot and then had to walk a long distance to get to the classroom. It was kind of ridiculous and off course I was late to class.

One more thing I was not expecting was the cost of the books. As a high school student the most you have to buy would be a pen or an index card or a poster board for a project but that does not go over 10 dollars. When I went to the college library to find out the cost of my books I was very surprised, I thought they were way too expensive but they are all necessary for each of my classes and if I want good grades I have to buy them somehow. In that aspect my budget was not ready at all and I found out myself short of money. In that moment I thought how much responsibilities I have now and ways to get more money, I am going to have to work more hours and try to work it out with my class schedule; I am also going to apply for financial aid and see if I get any money that way.

B).If you could warn an upcoming freshman about something to better prepare them for their first week, what would it be and why?

If I could warn an upcoming freshman about something to be better prepare it would be the time managing according to finding a parking space specially in the morning and in the beginning of the semester like the first 2 or 3 weeks. It is chaos to find an spot, sometimes it can be luck but most of the time you have to wake up a little earlier than usual so you can find something good and get to class on time. Another major thing is lines, every freshman has to get their ID card and parking sticker and the line can be really long and boring. It is better to get it the first two weeks because after that the room that you have to go to is going to be open only a few hours per week.

Something I find hard to manage sometimes is wanting to go to class, here in college you do not have a teacher calling to your house and telling your mommy you are not attending to class, here pretty much you do what you want to do, and if you choose not to show up to class no one is going to say anything, they are just going to fail you and you will lose your money and your time. Also try to buy the books and all the material you need the first week of school, because the teachers are going to give your homework from it the first day, here in college we do not waste time since it is only one semester and a lot of material, we do not have class everyday of the week like in high school and is only few hours of class. You are responsible now for getting all the materials including the book that you are going to need for each class.
